Frequently asked questions

Is a farm pond worth it?
On rainfed land where a protective irrigation at flowering would save the crop, generally yes. Sizing depends on catchment, rainfall and intended use, and the site must actually hold water; a percolation-heavy site may need lining.
Does laser levelling save water?
Precise levelling improves irrigation uniformity and reduces the water needed to cover a flood-irrigated field, along with more even germination. The saving depends on the initial unevenness of the plot.
Is Government assistance available for these works?
Several land development, water conservation and horticulture works are supported through State departments and rural employment schemes. Eligibility and rates are decided by the implementing department.
